Newsletter Objective:

The Montana School for the Deaf and Blind (MSDB Foundation) have turned their newsletter, the “Express” into a PR toolAssociation/Foundation Newsletter and a revenue generator. It was named the Express in reference to giving deaf and blind children the building blocks to independence. The Express originated as a school newsletter, for the purpose of communicating with student’s families, alumni, and the public school districts. It was so successful that it has evolved into a publication that now also serves in communicating to a broader audience about the MSDB foundation. Allowing them now to reach out to donors and potential donors. The Foundation uses the Express as a public relations and fundraising tool.


Changing the Newsletter Design offered bigger rewards:

The Express newsletter is 15-pages. Filled with articles informing readers about special events and the children’s achievements. A small reply envelope was added to the middle of the newsletter suggesting readers donate. The envelope is simply removed and mailed back to MSDB.

On the cover of the envelope they included “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” What better place to ask for a donation then when people are engaged reading about the success of your organization? The envelope was designed with a check mark box that allows donors to contribute what’s right for their budget. The envelope was a small addition to the newsletter that has paid off! The School has had a good response using this new design. Accomplishing their goal of communicating effectively about the services of MSDB to a broader audience and raising more money for their foundation.
