Residents Use Postcard Printing to Generate Support for New Area Name

Manhattan's Financial District has quickly become more residential over the past decade, which is why a growing number of residents in the area want to officially change the area's moniker. Now, they are using a postcard printing initiative to promote awareness of their cause, DNAinfo reports.
The movement is led by Sundeep Bhan and his group of friends, who are rallying to rename the Financial District to SoMa, which is short for South Manhattan. Bhan's committee is growing quickly thanks to a promotional campaign that leverages Facebook, a stand-alone website and postcards.
"This neighborhood is one of the oldest in the city, but as a residential neighborhood, it's new," Bhan, who lives with his wife and two young children in the Financial District, told the source. "There's an energy about the place - people are always talking about things that would make the neighborhood better."
Postcard campaigns work for grassroots movements such as Bhan's because they can be produced at low costs. These organizations often don't have big marketing budgets to begin with, which makes postcard printing the ideal tool.
