The town of Appleton, Wisconsin, is hoping to drive more tourism to its historic downtown area by providing a variety of activities, ranging from trolley tours to outdoor concerts featuring local bands, the Post Crescent reports.
Trolley Tours are a key part of this initiative. While visitors frequently use the trolleys as public transportation, they also offer a historic tour through the downtown area. For those interested in the city's history, Appleton Downtown recently launched a brochure printing initiative that highlights different areas along the trolley routes.
"We do have our trolley brochure that lists historic information. So as you're riding along, it's telling you what to be looking for, which I think is kind of fun," Anne Wiegman, marketing director for Appleton Downtown, told the source. "And that's why a lot of times, we'll see people actually reading along on the trolley brochure. We have those available in a lot of the businesses."
The historic district of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, used brochures for a similar purpose. The print materials promoted a walking tour of buildings that are historically or culturally important to the region.
