Farmers in Durham, Canada, have banded together to provide local consumers a glimpse of the products they offer through a brochure printing campaign. The 2011 edition of the Durham Farm Fresh brochure was recently made available to potential customers in the area.
The brochure acts as a directory for local produce. Residents can consult the printed piece to find specific farmers who produce consumables such as maple syrup, honey, cider, eggs, meat, fresh produce, pumpkins, plants, trees and other grown products.
"It gives an overview of all the great products that are grown and produced in the Durham Region," says Durham Farm Fresh president Tom Coleman, of Algoma Orchards Gourmet Market in Newcastle. "Durham Region is known for agriculture and this brochure is vital in getting local residents to buy local."
While the internet is great for reaching broad audiences, it is often less effective for local merchants as they are essentially paying for reach they don't need. Instead, print materials - such as brochures - may be a more efficient use of their money as they can be used to generate awareness specifically among local consumers.
