Design students attending Virginia Tech have put together a brochure to promote a driving tour through neighboring Pittsylvania and other counties. The brochure printing campaign was sponsored by Virginia Tech's Community Design Assistance Center. Elizabeth Gilboy, director of the school's design program, says the brochures will be distributed in the chamber of commerce and at local visitor centers after they are printed in July. The brochure highlights a scenic route that goes through Charlotte, Pittsylvania, Halifax and Campbell counties. "The route (through all the counties) is circular so people can hop on anywhere and go in any direction," Gilboy told GoDanRiver. Local wineries and natural attractions are highlights of the historic route. "I had no idea there was so much beautiful country in Southside Virginia," Gilboy added. Two towns in Arizona recently combined forces to use brochure printing in a similar way. The jointly made pamphlet denotes tourist attractions, lodging and restaurants in the area. The goal of the campaign is to drive tourism and perhaps attract more business to the area in the long run.
