Business cards are perhaps one of the most underrated print marketing tools - most entrepreneurs simply slap a company logo and their contact information on a card and call it a day.

However, as consumers electronics journalist Dennis Garcia recently noted, business card design is crucial. A well-designed business card can say a lot about the holder, and Garcia himself went through a number of different formats before finally settling on his current card.

For example, one of his first professionally printed cards was done with a black background. However, he noticed people frequently like to write notes on their cards, which isn't feasible with a black card. With subsequent designs, he changed the background color and also experimented with logo positioning, color usage and other key aspects.

Business cards should be one of the first print materials that entrepreneurs have created. This will enable company owners to get out in the field and meet with potential clients face-to-face. Without a business card, these individuals could be viewed as being unprofessional.
