Quick response codes have quickly become an integral aspect to postcard printing campaigns, as more consumers are using the technology to connect with brands. According to a recent survey conducted by MGH, 32 percent of smartphone owners have redeemed a QR code in the past, while 70 percent say they would be interested in doing so in the future.
More than half of consumers (53 percent) scan QR codes to get a coupon, deal or other discount. However, as many as 52 percent will use QR codes to simply access more information about the advertised product or service. Other motivations for using QR codes include gaining access to video content, interacting with social content and making purchases.
"While QR code usage is growing in popularity, it’s still a relatively new marketing tactic with little to no statistics out there about how consumers are using them," said MGH president, Andy Malis. "These results demonstrate that consumers are embracing the mobile marketing tactic, and even those who haven't used QR codes are interested in engaging with them."
The important thing to remember about QR codes is that businesses can use them to direct consumers to just about anything on the web. For example, if a company is trying to build its Facebook presence, QR codes may be used to route consumers to the business' profile.
