Both full-year home owners and regular vacationers of New Jersey are voicing in on a new proposal that would prohibit public beach access in the state, The Press of Atlantic City reports.
The new regulation, proposed by the Department of Environmental Protection, would enable towns to decide where and when people can access the beach. However, more than 40 groups of residents and frequent visitors are rallying against the proposal.
Earlier this week, the advocacy groups launched an extensive postcard printing campaign decrying the regulations. The postcards featured people walking to and from the beaches along with private property signs.
"Taxpayers are paying for beaches that we don’t have access to," Gary Wright, of Red Bank, told the source. "Where's the logic in that? More and more, the haves-and-have-nots divide gets wider."
Postcards are constantly used for protest movements because they are relatively inexpensive to produce. For example, several elementary schools in California recently leveraged postcard printing to protest proposed budget cuts to school systems.
