British fashion chain Topshop is leveraging postcard printing in a unique way - rather than sending postcards to consumers and trying to drive them to stores, it is passing out customized postcards and encouraging shoppers to send to friends or keep them. Shoppers at the stores will be provided with a complimentary styling session and then have their picture taking. Consumers will then be able to upload the photograph to their Facebook pages or print a postcard of the image. The picture will be branded with Topshop's logo, helping the company to generate even more awareness. The Topshop effort will also include a $1,000 shopping spree for brand fans both in the UK and abroad. Customers who "Like" the brand's Facebook page will automatically be entered into the sweepstakes to win the shopping spree. Postcards are a very adaptable medium, so businesses should be sure to take advantage of this. For example, they could be sold by museums and art galleries to turn a profit or they could be used for promotional purposes by more conventional companies, as Topshop is doing.
