Hospitals would be closed due to budget cuts.
06/14/11
Residents of San Luis, California, protested a proposed $800,000 budget cut targeting Community Health Centers of the Central Coast. If the proposal was passed, two of 17 clinics available in the county would be shut down, while hours at other locations would be cut. The CHC postcard printing campaign was launched on June 2 and encourages local residents to voice their feelings to local politicians. In a mere five days, the government has received more than 600 postcards, many with personal anecdotes about how local health centers have benefited residents. Government officials, however, believe the health centers are overreacting to the proposed budget cuts. "I believe the CHC threat in closing the Cambria clinic is nothing more than a negotiation ploy," he told the San Luis Obispo. He claims the postcard campaign is "raising baseless fears in their patient population. I'm very concerned and disappointed in the approach." A separate California community recently leveraged postcard printing to protest proposed rate changes to sanitary waste removal.
