As Direct Marketing IQ notes, a good offer is all about exceeding customer expectations. For example, Entrepreneur magazine recently sent a solicitation to business owners to encourage them to subscribe. Rather than offering recipients a standard percent off, the publication enabled consumers to name their own price - a strategy that caught the eye of many prospective subscribers.

The standard annual subscription fee for Entrepreneur magazine is between $5 and $12. However, Patrick Hainault, who works for the publication's publishing company, is optimistic. "He believes most respondents will offer to pay something within the target $5 to $12 range or more," the source notes.

A well-realized offer is only one part of the package - businesses still need to have a relevant mailing list and attention-grabbing creative to maximize their success.
