If we couldn\u2019t even make the wheel, it\u2019s one thing to make it, and then it\u2019s another thing to make it at a price-competitive way.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><strong> Zack Fleishman, CEO &amp; Co-Founder<\/strong>\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zoe Fisher:<\/strong> Of course! So, Zack, who&#8217;s your primary customer base, and how do Shark Wheels cater to their needs?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zack Fleishman:<\/strong> Yeah, great question. We have a long-winded answer for that because we&#8217;re in so many different industries. We started off in <strong>skateboarding<\/strong> because it had a low barrier to entry, plus great social media content. But behind the scenes, we were really an <strong>R&amp;D company<\/strong> trying to figure out how to <strong>manufacture<\/strong> our crazy-shaped wheel and make it <strong>perform better<\/strong> than a traditional wheel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our biggest market today is <strong>agriculture<\/strong>. I&#8217;m guessing we\u2019re the only company that&#8217;s ever been in <strong>skateboarding and agriculture<\/strong> at the same time. But we\u2019re also expanding into <strong>wheelchairs next week<\/strong>, and <strong>forklifts and pallet jacks next month<\/strong>. How exactly do Shark Wheels help skaters and other industries?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zack Fleishman:<\/strong> It\u2019s like that BASF commercial\u2014<em>We don\u2019t make a lot of the products you buy, but we make a lot of the products you buy better.<\/em> We\u2019re a <strong>component part<\/strong> that improves <strong>performance, durability, and efficiency<\/strong> across multiple applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From a marketing perspective, we have an advantage because our wheels look <strong>square<\/strong>. People don\u2019t understand how they roll, so they <strong>click<\/strong> to find out. It creates a <strong>crazy high engagement rate<\/strong> both online and in retail stores. People stop, stare, and interact with it because it looks so different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zoe Fisher:<\/strong> That makes sense! I\u2019ve seen your wheels, and I actually skateboard myself. Can you explain the innovation behind Shark Wheels and how they improve performance?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zack Fleishman:<\/strong> Sure! The shape is based on <strong>natural motion<\/strong>. Everything in nature moves in a <strong>sine wave<\/strong>\u2014ocean waves, radio waves, even how DNA twists. The Shark Wheel rolls <strong>right-left-right-left<\/strong>, mimicking natural motion while still going in a straight line. It moves <strong>like a snake\u2019s head<\/strong>, making it highly efficient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s called the <strong>Shark Wheel<\/strong> because it\u2019s the <strong>exact shape of a shark\u2019s jaw<\/strong>. If you Google \u201cshark jaw,\u201d you\u2019ll see this shape. It\u2019s all about <strong>biomimicry<\/strong>\u2014copying nature to <strong>increase performance, reduce friction, and improve efficiency<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zoe Fisher:<\/strong> That\u2019s fascinating! Is the wave shape what sets you apart from traditional wheels?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zack Fleishman:<\/strong> Absolutely. The <strong>wave design<\/strong> has several advantages. For example, our <strong>agriculture wheel<\/strong> is used in <strong>center pivot irrigation<\/strong>, which waters most of the Midwest. Traditional wheels dig deep trenches in the soil. Our <strong>front wheel moves left-right-left<\/strong>, digging a shallow trench, and our <strong>back wheel moves right-left-right<\/strong>, <strong>repairing the trench<\/strong> as it moves. It\u2019s a <strong>game-changing solution<\/strong> to the biggest problem in the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s why we partnered with <strong>Bridgestone Firestone<\/strong>, the <strong>#1 tire company in the world<\/strong>. How did you break into farming and agriculture?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zack Fleishman:<\/strong> Farmers literally came to us! We aired on <em>Shark Tank<\/em>, and 48 hours later, two farmers showed up at our office saying, <em>We think you solved the biggest problem in center pivot irrigation.<\/em> We didn\u2019t even know what that was at the time! But they saw the <strong>potential of our design<\/strong> before we did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zoe Fisher:<\/strong> That\u2019s amazing! What was the wildest part of your <em>Shark Tank<\/em> experience?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zack Fleishman:<\/strong> The hardest part was <strong>48 hours before filming<\/strong>, when the producers <strong>changed all my lines<\/strong> in our pitch. I had practiced my original lines for <strong>months<\/strong>, and suddenly, I had to memorize <strong>new ones<\/strong>. That was nerve-wracking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another crazy moment\u2014while waiting backstage, I was told I had <strong>10 minutes<\/strong> before filming. Then, out of nowhere, the loudspeaker started counting down, \u201c<strong>10, 9, 8\u2026<\/strong>,\u201d and the doors opened! I had <strong>zero time to prepare<\/strong>, and suddenly, I was walking onto the set with no retakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-pale-ocean-gradient-background has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-60a1b1eb96057b1a89c294c05f730b2d\" style=\"font-size:18px\"><strong>\u201cOur agriculture wheel moves left-right-left, digging a small trench, while the back wheel moves right-left-right, actually repairing the rut. It\u2019s a game-changing solution to the biggest problem in center pivot irrigation.\u201d Zack Fleishman, CEO &amp; Co-Founder<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zoe Fisher:<\/strong> That sounds terrifying! What\u2019s been the most unexpected marketing success for Shark Wheels?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zack Fleishman:<\/strong> We\u2019ve been <strong>lucky<\/strong> because our product is so <strong>visually unique<\/strong> that we got <strong>free media coverage<\/strong> for years. We didn\u2019t even have a product to sell when we launched our <strong>Kickstarter<\/strong>\u2014it was just an <strong>idea<\/strong>. But we got featured on <strong>Discovery Channel<\/strong> and other major outlets before we even shipped a single product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For small businesses trying to get noticed, I\u2019d recommend <strong>equity crowdfunding<\/strong>. Instead of chasing venture capital, you can raise funds directly from consumers. It allows <strong>average people<\/strong> to invest in your company and gives <strong>small businesses a better shot<\/strong> at success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zoe Fisher:<\/strong> That\u2019s a great insight! How does Shark Wheels use print marketing?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zack Fleishman:<\/strong> We just did a <strong>direct mail campaign<\/strong> targeting the agriculture industry. We sent <strong>beautiful printed catalogs<\/strong> to key industry contacts. With everything going <strong>digital<\/strong>, print marketing <strong>stands out<\/strong> now more than ever. Nobody gets <strong>real mail<\/strong> anymore, so when they do, they pay attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also use <strong>print for trade shows<\/strong>, including <strong>banners, business cards, user guides, and in-store displays<\/strong>. It\u2019s critical for <strong>customer education<\/strong> because our wheels <strong>look strange<\/strong>, and people need to <strong>see and feel them<\/strong> to understand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-pale-ocean-gradient-background has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-01a41fc196edb58e10dc161f800c3ca1\" style=\"font-size:18px\"><strong><em>\u201cEvery industry always has room for two. There&#8217;s Coke and there&#8217;s Pepsi. Pepsi\u2019s never going to be as big as Coke, but that\u2019s okay. We want to be the Pepsi to the circular wheel\u2019s Coca-Cola.\u201d<\/em>  Zack Fleishman, CEO &amp; Co-Founder<\/strong>\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zoe Fisher:<\/strong> That makes sense! What have been some of Shark Wheels\u2019 biggest milestones?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zack Fleishman:<\/strong> Getting <strong>scientific testing<\/strong> was huge. Customers needed proof, so we worked with <strong>universities and labs<\/strong> to show our wheels outperform traditional ones. <strong>Securing patents<\/strong> and <strong>partnering with major brands<\/strong> were also major breakthroughs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve collaborated with <strong>Bridgestone Firestone, Samsonite, Spider (snow gear), and Harley Davidson<\/strong>. Shark Wheels are also used on <strong>U.S. military deployment bags and PGA Tour golf bags<\/strong>. Partnering with <strong>industry leaders<\/strong> validated our technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zoe Fisher:<\/strong> Those are impressive partnerships! What challenges are holding Shark Wheels back?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zack Fleishman:<\/strong> Market cycles. COVID caused <strong>record-breaking<\/strong> outdoor product sales, then demand <strong>crashed<\/strong>. Retailers like <strong>Walmart<\/strong> over-ordered, then cut shelf space by <strong>75%<\/strong>. Agriculture also had a <strong>down year<\/strong>. We have to <strong>navigate market fluctuations<\/strong> and <strong>stay resilient<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zoe Fisher:<\/strong> That\u2019s tough. What leadership advice do you wish you had known earlier?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zack Fleishman:<\/strong> Hire <strong>the right people, fast.<\/strong> A lot of businesses <strong>hold onto underperforming employees too long<\/strong>, and it <strong>hurts growth<\/strong>. Also, <strong>raising capital is crucial<\/strong>. Many companies fail because they\u2019re <strong>undercapitalized<\/strong>. If we couldn\u2019t even make the wheel, it\u2019s one thing to make it, and then it\u2019s another thing to make it at a price-competitive way.\u201d Zack Fleishman, CEO &amp; Co-Founder\u200b Zoe Fisher: Of course! So, Zack, who&#8217;s your primary customer base, and how do Shark Wheels cater to their needs? Zack Fleishman: Yeah, great question. We have a long-winded answer for that because we&#8217;re in so many different industries. We started off in skateboarding because it had a low barrier to entry, plus great social media content. But behind the scenes, we were really an R&amp;D company trying to figure out how to manufacture our crazy-shaped wheel and make it perform better than a traditional wheel. Our biggest market today is agriculture. I&#8217;m guessing we\u2019re the only company that&#8217;s ever been in skateboarding and agriculture at the same time. But we\u2019re also expanding into wheelchairs next week, and forklifts and pallet jacks next month. We have applications in over 100 different industries. Zoe Fisher: That\u2019s an exciting expansion! How exactly do Shark Wheels help skaters and other industries? Zack Fleishman: It\u2019s like that BASF commercial\u2014We don\u2019t make a lot of the products you buy, but we make a lot of the products you buy better. We\u2019re a component part that improves performance, durability, and efficiency across multiple applications. From a marketing perspective, we have an advantage because our wheels look square. People don\u2019t understand how they roll, so they click to find out. It creates a crazy high engagement rate both online and in retail stores. People stop, stare, and interact with it because it looks so different. Zoe Fisher: That makes sense! I\u2019ve seen your wheels, and I actually skateboard myself. Can you explain the innovation behind Shark Wheels and how they improve performance? Zack Fleishman: Sure! The shape is based on natural motion. Everything in nature moves in a sine wave\u2014ocean waves, radio waves, even how DNA twists. The Shark Wheel rolls right-left-right-left, mimicking natural motion while still going in a straight line. It moves like a snake\u2019s head, making it highly efficient. It\u2019s called the Shark Wheel because it\u2019s the exact shape of a shark\u2019s jaw. If you Google \u201cshark jaw,\u201d you\u2019ll see this shape. It\u2019s all about biomimicry\u2014copying nature to increase performance, reduce friction, and improve efficiency. Zoe Fisher: That\u2019s fascinating! Is the wave shape what sets you apart from traditional wheels? Zack Fleishman: Absolutely. The wave design has several advantages. For example, our agriculture wheel is used in center pivot irrigation, which waters most of the Midwest. Traditional wheels dig deep trenches in the soil. Our front wheel moves left-right-left, digging a shallow trench, and our back wheel moves right-left-right, repairing the trench as it moves. It\u2019s a game-changing solution to the biggest problem in the industry. That\u2019s why we partnered with Bridgestone Firestone, the #1 tire company in the world. They had never sold an airless tire before, but they did for us. Zoe Fisher: That\u2019s incredible. How did you break into farming and agriculture? Zack Fleishman: Farmers literally came to us! We aired on Shark Tank, and 48 hours later, two farmers showed up at our office saying, We think you solved the biggest problem in center pivot irrigation. We didn\u2019t even know what that was at the time! But they saw the potential of our design before we did. Zoe Fisher: That\u2019s amazing! What was the wildest part of your Shark Tank experience? Zack Fleishman: The hardest part was 48 hours before filming, when the producers changed all my lines in our pitch. I had practiced my original lines for months, and suddenly, I had to memorize new ones. That was nerve-wracking. Another crazy moment\u2014while waiting backstage, I was told I had 10 minutes before filming. Then, out of nowhere, the loudspeaker started counting down, \u201c10, 9, 8\u2026,\u201d and the doors opened! I had zero time to prepare, and suddenly, I was walking onto the set with no retakes. \u201cOur agriculture wheel moves left-right-left, digging a small trench, while the back wheel moves right-left-right, actually repairing the rut.
