I\u2019m so excited to be here and talk about this project. I\u2019ve been looking forward to this conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zoe:<\/strong> Same here! I\u2019ve been so excited all week. You have such a unique project, and your brand really resonates with so many audiences. To start, who do you serve through The Professional Homegirl brand, and what does that responsibility mean to you as a creator and storyteller?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ebon\u00e9:<\/strong> I feel like there\u2019s a Professional Homegirl in all of us. But when I first created the brand, I really had myself in mind. Growing up, I went through a lot, and I wanted this to be a love letter to all women\u2014especially women of color\u2014so they could see themselves in these stories. Life can be hard, and I wanted to show that healing is possible. It\u2019s a big responsibility because I feel like I\u2019m walking in my purpose. We\u2019re using storylines to create lifelines. This brand has saved me as much as it\u2019s helped others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zoe:<\/strong> That\u2019s so beautiful. These times call for empathy and hope. That\u2019s what I try to bring through both the coloring book and my podcast. Together, they\u2019re about healing, representation, and reminding people that their stories matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zoe:<\/strong> Speaking of representation, what experiences do you hope your audience has when they sit down with your coloring book?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ebon\u00e9:<\/strong> One of my favorite Jay-Z lyrics is, \u201cYou can\u2019t heal what you don\u2019t reveal.\u201d That line guided me when creating the book. Another lyric I love is, \u201cHov went through that so you don\u2019t have to go through that.\u201d That\u2019s what I want people to feel, like they\u2019re not alone, that they can learn from the experiences of others. This volume focuses on career women and entrepreneurship, because I wanted women, especially women of color, to see themselves in spaces they might not have imagined before. Representation matters so much. I have people from age ten to eighty telling me how much the book has meant to them. I want readers to dream big, to know it\u2019s okay to pivot, and to believe they can do it too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zoe:<\/strong> And you\u2019re giving them that visibility. You\u2019re creating something that kids and adults alike can see themselves in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ebon\u00e9:<\/strong> Exactly. My first coloring book was geared toward adults, but this new one is for teenagers. When I was younger, I didn\u2019t have coloring books like this. Ones that were intricate, artistic, and filled with real stories. Each page is packed with meaning and representation. You might find a story about Florence Griffith Joyner, the fastest woman in the world, or a tribute to a classic R&amp;B group. There\u2019s something for everyone! Even athletes, artists, tech lovers, and dreamers. It\u2019s storytelling through art, and it\u2019s all about possibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-9e269ac6dfd43a3b59e2633b328f00ca\" style=\"background:linear-gradient(135deg,rgb(255,203,112) 0%,rgb(199,81,192) 20%,rgb(65,88,208) 100%)\"><strong><em>\u201cMy coloring books are more than pages to fill\u2014they\u2019re stories you can touch, art you can hold. When people hold my book, I want them to feel like they\u2019re holding a piece of themselves.\u201d <\/em>Ebon\u00e9 Almon<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zoe:<\/strong> I love that. You\u2019ve clearly put so much heart into connecting with your audience. What\u2019s your creative philosophy when it comes to making work that\u2019s both entertaining and empowering?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ebon\u00e9:<\/strong> Honestly, I\u2019m a big \u201cfeelings\u201d person. If something feels right, I go with it. My illustrator and I have built such a strong creative bond. We\u2019ve grown a lot since the first book. That one was a great start, but we didn\u2019t fully realize the potential of what a coloring book could be. With this new one, I pushed for boldness and detail. Those little touches matter. I remember a woman once cried during a workshop because she saw a drawing of a character with tattoos and said she\u2019d never seen herself in a coloring book before. That moment reminded me why I do this;<strong><em> so everyone can see themselves reflected in art.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zoe:<\/strong> That\u2019s incredible. You can really feel that growth from volume to volume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ebon\u00e9:<\/strong> Definitely. The first one was great, but this third volume? It\u2019s next-level. I\u2019m so proud of it. It\u2019s bolder, more detailed, more personal. I see people from my city, New York, on every page. These are real people, real stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zoe:<\/strong> I see coloring books all day, and none look like yours. They\u2019re not just patterns or shapes, they\u2019re powerful stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ebon\u00e9:<\/strong> Exactly. It\u2019s a mix of career paths, entrepreneurship, culture, and spirituality. What do you think sets The Professional Homegirl brand apart from others?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ebon\u00e9:<\/strong> Honestly, me. I think my gift is helping people feel seen. I rarely meet my podcast guests beforehand, but when we talk, there\u2019s an instant connection. I always try to be the kind of woman I needed when I was younger. The Professional Homegirl is about using stories to inspire hope and connection. When someone listens and realizes they\u2019re not alone. That\u2019s everything. I call it the \u201cpink print\u201d for womanhood, a guide made up of shared lessons and resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zoe:<\/strong> That\u2019s powerful. What advice would you give to others who want to start a podcast or create something like your coloring book?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ebon\u00e9:<\/strong> Podcasting is one of the hardest things I\u2019ve ever done. I\u2019ve been doing it almost seven years, and it took a long time before I made any money from it. My advice is to stay patient, be consistent, and remember your purpose. The success will follow. As for coloring books, I think they\u2019re such a creative way to share your voice. Do your research, visit bookstores, study what\u2019s out there, and find your own lane. Ask people what they like to color, what paper they prefer because those details matter. What advice would you give to people creating content in emotionally sensitive spaces?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-87609250e44c03c1cacb49da78a789b7\" style=\"background:linear-gradient(135deg,rgb(255,203,112) 0%,rgb(199,81,192) 16%,rgb(65,88,208) 100%)\"><strong><em>\u201cRepresentation matters because when you see yourself, you know you can do it too.\u201d<\/em><\/strong> <strong>Ebon\u00e9 Almon<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ebon\u00e9:<\/strong> First, take care of your mental health. Some conversations can be really heavy. I once recorded an episode called \u201c<em>My Father\u2019s Mistress Killed My Mom<\/em>,\u201d and it broke me. I wasn\u2019t sure I could air it. But my network encouraged me to keep going because it was powerful and necessary. Always give trigger warnings, and check in with yourself. Therapy has been life-changing for me, I\u2019ve been in and out of therapy for about ten years. You have to protect your own energy so you can hold space for others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zoe:<\/strong> That makes so much sense. Were there specific moments that confirmed for you that you were on the right path?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ebon\u00e9:<\/strong> Definitely. I\u2019ve had several. Early on, I interviewed a woman who had been through so much, and she broke down crying. That\u2019s when I realized I was creating something meaningful. I call those moments \u201c<em>God\u2019s winks<\/em>.\u201d It\u2019s like He\u2019s saying, \u201c<em>Keep going<\/em>.\u201d When you\u2019re aligned with your purpose, you feel it. You just know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zoe:<\/strong> I love that term! God\u2019s winks. What challenges are you facing right now as a creator and entrepreneur?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ebon\u00e9:<\/strong> Honestly, balancing ambition and contentment. I always want more, but I have to remind myself that I prayed for the moments I\u2019m living now. I\u2019m standing in the middle of answered prayers. It\u2019s okay to want more, but it\u2019s also okay to pause and appreciate where you are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zoe:<\/strong> That\u2019s so relatable. Successful people often struggle with that balance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ebon\u00e9:<\/strong> Exactly. It\u2019s about trusting the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zoe:<\/strong> On the brighter side, what accomplishments are you most proud of this year?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ebon\u00e9:<\/strong> Volume Three of the coloring book, hands down. I\u2019m hosting color-and-sip workshops and getting the book into bookstores. My podcast network, Black Effect, also celebrated its five-year anniversary, and I was one of the highlighted shows. And earlier this year, I had a billboard in Times Square announcing my rebrand! It\u2019s been an incredible year. I\u2019ve come such a long way\u2014from losing my grandmother, who inspired all of this, to building a brand that helps others heal.
