Saddle stitch booklet printing is when four pages are printed onto one sheet of paper (two on the front, two on the back) and then collated in a way that, when folded and stapled through the midline, the pages appear in sequential order.
The weight and finish of paper you choose for your saddle-stitched booklet depends on the purpose of your product. We have a guide to help you understand the different options and recommendations for choosing the right paper for your saddle stitched booklet.
Saddle stitch booklets that have 8 pages - 92 pages, though we require them be in 4 page increments. In other words, your document (counting front and back cover) should be one of the following page counts:
8 | 12 | 16 | 20 | 24 | 28 | 32 | 36 40 | 44 | 48 | 52 | 56 | 60 | 64 | 68 | 72 | 76 | 80 | 84 | 88 | 92
Saddle stitched booklets are full sheets, folded and staple bound, and can have as few as 8 pages. Saddle stitch booklets lay flat and stay open when flipping through the pages. Perfect bound booklets are pages bound to a cover sheet with glue. Perfect bound booklets can have as few as 28 pages up to 2” thick, and (if it is thick enough) you can design on the spine.
We have an in-depth guide comparing saddle stitched booklets and perfect bound booklets.
Arrange the pages for your saddle stitched booklet as pages in order. For example, for an 8-page booklet (Cover + 4 Inside Pages):
Yes! Saddle stitch binding allows for crossovers to be executed without losing a portion of the image in the binding center, like with perfect bound.
When the pages of a booklet are folded in half placed over a holding device (the saddle) it looks like legs hanging over the saddle.
Saddle stitch bound books and booklets do lay flat. This makes them a great option for projects such as coloring books, as you don’t need to hold them open the entire time. Depending on how many pages you have in your product, there might be a slight “poof” in the center of the pages, but it will still lay flat.
Delivery dates vary depending on the quantity and page count of your order, but our standard turnaround time is 3 to 4 days from proof approval, depending on the delivery time you choose. For faster turnarounds, select a delivery date in the pricing tool.

Bleed is an extra 1/8” of image that extends beyond the trim area of your printed piece. The project is printed on an oversized sheet that is cut down to size with the appearance that the image is “bleeding” off the edge of the paper.
