About Seattle Meowtropolitan
Founded in 2015, Seattle Meowtropolitan has become a cozy retreat for cat lovers to sip coffee, relax, and connect with adoptable cats from local shelters. Their mission is simple: build community through compassion, one cup (and one cuddle) at a time.
Now celebrating a decade of coffee and cat cuddles, the café continues to bring joy to locals and visitors alike. To mark this special milestone, the team dreamed up a calendar that reflects their staff’s shared love of astrology and their cats’ distinctive personalities.
“Many of the employees are into astrology, and we regularly joke and try to guess the signs of each cat. That’s why we ultimately decided to go with astrology for the calendar,” said Rachel Duzenski, Café Meownager at Seattle Meowtropolitan.
The Challenge
Creating a calendar starring cats sounds easy until the models refuse to cooperate! Rachel shared that photographing the café’s residents was equal parts adorable and chaotic.
“We shot the photos in the lounge with all the other cats around, and it was chaos to say the least; cats climbing the backdrop, walking in front of the camera, and refusing to sit still for their photos. But with some patience and time, we got what we needed eventually, and it was all definitely worth it.” Rachel Duzenski
The challenge was to capture each cat’s personality while keeping the aesthetic cohesive and professional. The team also wanted the final product to look polished enough for retail, yet still warm and playful which is just like the café itself.
